The Music Man!
Pacific Standard Magazine’s November / December 2012 issue has an in depth, contentious 8 page article on the Reading & Rhythm Program by Gabriel Kahn, a professor at the USC Annenberg for Communication and Journalism and a former LA Bureau Chief of the Wall Street Journal.
JOSÉ XUNCAX FIRST LANDED IN JAIL at 13 for armed robbery. Since then, he’s been in and out of the system, as he calls it, six times. Now, at 15, tall, muscled, with close-cropped brown hair and a scar over his left eye, he’s serving six months for another robbery. He lives at Camp Mendenhall, a juvenile-detention facility tucked between the mountains at the northern edge of Los Angeles County. Reading & Rhythm in London!
In November, The Drumming for Your Life Institute trained 10 teachers in the Reading & Rhythm program at St Angela’s Ursuline Catholic secondary school for girls in East London!
The teachers education and the student’s enthusiasm for Reading & Rhythm was inspiring!
St Angela's was founded in 1862 and last year celebrated 150 years in education.
The teachers education and the student’s enthusiasm for Reading & Rhythm was inspiring!
Teachers and students were surprised to see how quickly they improved in reading comprehension and fluency. They also used Reading & Rhythm for lessons in French and German. We are looking to add Reading & Rhythm as a preparatory tool for college bound students.
